There are signs of spring already, although most of them are subtle, mostly auditory. The calls I hear when I step outside early in the morning are definitely about spring and territories.<br \/>\nBuffleheads are winter residents here, and haven&#8217;t started to move north yet (I usually don&#8217;t fly close enough to water to create that good a reflection) (as usual, click on the picture for a full-res version):<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/ReebsF\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7229_0012_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\nbut Kingfishers and Mallards are here all year round:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/SetAD9\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7246_0010_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/Ree9gr\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7262_0003_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\nA Cormarant (ID based mainly on outline and beak shape) on early morning patrol:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/Setv9m\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7291_0001_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\nI went down below the dam to look around and get a different prespective on the lake:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/Sets6N\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7343_0006_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\nI spotted these Geese coming in low towards the dam, over wind-rippled water the same shade of blue as the clear sky&#8230;<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/SeteAs\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7358_0005_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\n&#8230;where they gathered, completely ignoring the signs that warn about people not being allowed on the dam:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/RedKvr\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7390_0004_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\nThat blue sky makes for blue water everywhere:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/RUBCg3\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7471_0001_tn.jpg\"><\/A><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I finally managed to get some outdoor time (and come up with something to blog about).
