In my <A HREF=\"\/blog\/going-on-winter-at-croft\/\">last post<\/A> a little over a month ago I was out in near-freezing conditions to take a walk in the woods. Then we had sleet. Then astronomical winter started. Today it was warm enough to put on shorts and a T-shirt and wring one last lake trip out of my 2018 <A HREF=\"http:\/\/lcwsc.com\/lake-rabon-general-info\/boat-permits\/\">boat permit<\/A>.<br \/>\nA <A HREF=\"\/blog\/creature-feature-2018-6\/\">couple months ago<\/A>, things looked like this:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/Qv2LDC\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP0671_0002_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\nWhat a difference a season makes:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2cu8AR4\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP0929_0001_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nSo now we&#8217;re getting into winter (again?), and everyone is settling in, and not a lot of wildlife is visible. Many have left for the winter, and those here (either wintering or year-round) are keeping a low profile. Like these <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Double-crested_Cormorant\/#\">Cormorants<\/A>:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/RJUosq\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP0963_0010_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nAnd some <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Bufflehead\/overview\">Buffleheads<\/A>:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2b7f9yW\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP1032_0008_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nI was trying to get a picture of something else and ended up with this bit of &#8220;artwork&#8221;:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2b7f1Sd\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP1069_0007_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nWith the lake level up from recent rains (we&#8217;ve been getting a good bit of that lately), I was able to get in to more nooks and crannies around the lake. Like this little spot:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/Q7AqGz\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP1096_0006_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nA floating bit of debris up ahead? Or&#8230;<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/Q7zKVr\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP1119_0005_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s not often you see floating debris with a nose and eyes&#8230;<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2dNcqh1\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP1140_0003_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nYeah, that was a Beaver.<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2cu6bwM\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP1129_0004_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nTurtles were out too catching some late-season sun:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2b7d345\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP1175_0002_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nSo, that&#8217;s most of the major groups, birds, mammals, and reptiles.
