For those of you in more northern latitudes, if you haven&#8217;t seen those first <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/American_Robin\/\">Robins<\/A> of spring, rest assured they&#8217;re on the way. I don&#8217;t have any tracking, but I suspect they&#8217;ll be more reliable than some of our package delivery services lately.<\/p>\n<p>It was a really good day today to get out on the lake, and I couldn&#8217;t let it slide by. The camera was going full speed within 10 minutes of launching, but I&#8217;m going to back up just a bit to a couple of shots right in my own back yard, a relatively rare sighting:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kRbHS2\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP4828_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR7By4\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP4831_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nI&#8217;ve seen <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Pileated_Woodpecker\">Pileated Woodpeckers<\/A> on occasion, but this was the first time I&#8217;ve gotten one on camera.<\/p>\n<p>Out on the lake, the <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Double-crested_Cormorant\">Cormorants<\/A> were having a bit of a dust-up (can you <em>have<\/em> a dust-up on the water?):<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR81Ec\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP4856_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nGeting one of these airborne off the water takes some work. Ready&#8230;..<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR86J3\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP4944_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nLaunch!<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kRbHQJ\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP4945_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nAnd a few more hops to get fully weight-on-wings:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kRbHNV\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP4953_tn.png\"><\/A><\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a new nesting platform for the <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/osprey\">Osprey<\/A> near the lake dam, being checked out:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR7Bxx\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP5019_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nand these guys were cavorting in the air nearby:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR7Bvo\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP5031_tn.png\"><\/A><\/p>\n<p>Turtles! Everywhere there was something sticking out of the water, there were turtles!<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR7Bur\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP5109_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nFollow the leader&#8230;<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR81Az\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP5144_tn.png\"><\/A><\/p>\n<p>A few <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/American_Crow\">Crows<\/A> gathered before crossing the lake:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR7BtV\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP5170_tn.png\"><\/A><\/p>\n<p>Of course, the <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Canada_Goose\">Geese<\/A> are still here, but seem to be more dispersed, probably out nesting. This was was doing a little &#8220;airframe maintenance&#8221;:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR81CD\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP5189_tn.png\"><\/A><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m please to report that the <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Bald_Eagle\">Bald Eagles<\/A> are still around too. I saw this one high above the lake:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR81Gb\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP4882_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kR86LC\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP4904_tn.png\"><\/A><\/p>\n<p>And, of course, the obligatory <A HREF=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Great_Blue_Heron\">Great Blue Heron<\/A> picture:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2kRbHRq\"><IMG SRC=\"\/media\/IMGP4917_tn.png\"><\/A><\/p>\n<p>As usual, you can click on the pictures to get to a full-resolution version.
