The nearby <a href=\"https:\/\/lcwsc.com\/services\/lake-rabon\/\">Lake Rabon Park<\/a> has a small network of trails in the woods, so off I went.<\/p>\n<p>Not much to see from the top of the dam (picture taken from behind the fence with the &#8220;nobody allowed on dam&#8221; sign).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2o3XzWX\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/PXL_20221204_133006093_tn.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nWith the recent rains, there was a pretty good flow through the lake overflow and into the creek below.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2o3Z64k\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/PXL_20221204_135059940_tn.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nNothing coming over the spillway though. I don&#8217;t think I&#8217;ve ever seen the water high enough to hit the spillway.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2o3VdNj\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/PXL_20221204_142006055_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A nice quiet walk along the creek.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2o3XzWw\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/PXL_20221204_133314047_tn.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nSome of the trails involve some climbing.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2o413iV\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/PXL_20221204_134032014_tn.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nI was coming to the bridge when a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/field-guide\/bird\/great-blue-heron\">Great Blue Heron<\/a> flew by, giving me a good look. She landed a bit downstream, where the stream under the bridge meets the Rabon Creek.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2o41oS3\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/PXL_20221204_135429397a_tn.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nI&#8217;m pretty sure I saw a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/articles\/pileated-woodpecker.htm\">Pileated Woodpecker<\/a> too. No chance for a picture, and I only saw him for a second, but a large black bird with a flash of red narrowed it down.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder if some of these rocks would stil be there if not for the trees (which came first?).<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2o3Z62r\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/PXL_20221204_141041684_tn.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nNot all the trails are as nice as the ones above, some are paved.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2o41oRr\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/PXL_20221204_140121078.MP_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I awoke this morning to a thick fog over the lake and through the trees, and thought &#8220;What a great time for walk in the woods!&#8221;.
