I&#8217;ve been out there with the camera, but been a bit preoccupied trying to figure out how to ride a mountain bike.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of mountain bikes, you can see some odd things along the trails, like this &#8220;appliance in the woods&#8221; I found beside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fs.usda.gov\/recarea\/scnfs\/recreation\/hiking\/recarea\/?recid=47191&amp;actid=50\">Long Cane Horse Trail<\/a>:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2aiKj\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/PXL_20230903_124326131_tn.jpg\"><\/a><br \/>\nI&#8217;d really like to know what that small freezer was doing out in the middle of the woods, and why it&#8217;s so celebrated.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, back to the lake, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/field-guide\/bird\/great-egret\">Great Egrets<\/a> are here, I usually see them just in the late summer &#8211; early autumn.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2emhx\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/IMGP0150_tn.png\"><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2aiJH\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/IMGP9999_tn.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Feast day for the spiders stringing webs around the bridge:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2fA5b\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/IMGP9814_tn.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t recall seeing ducks like these before, but they are ducks:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2fzZg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/IMGP9831_tn.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure what drew in these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/field-guide\/bird\/black-vulture\">Black Vultures<\/a>, maybe they just wanted some time at the beach:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2djX2\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/IMGP9928_tn.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nature&#8217;s lesson: just because a tree has died, that doesn&#8217;t mean it&#8217;s contribution to the forest is at an end:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2dk13\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/IMGP9875_tn.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now this could be noteworthy, if my identification is correct:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2aiUH\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/IMGP9745_tn.png\"><\/a><br \/>\nThis seems to match pictures and other information for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/field-guide\/bird\/limpkin\">Limpkin<\/a>. That is, matches everything except the range maps, which show Limpkins inhabiting no farther north than Florida. Climate change in action?<\/p>\n<p>And, of course the obligatory <a href=\"https:\/\/www.audubon.org\/field-guide\/bird\/great-blue-heron\">Great Blue Heron<\/a> pictures:<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2djSc\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/IMGP9796_tn.png\"><\/a><br \/>\nAnd, yes, they do fly in the fog. They must be equipped for IFR.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2p2djKt\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"\/media\/IMGP9985_tn.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ve had some neat sunrises lately.
