The return of the Creature Feature feature of my blog!<br \/>\nI spotted this guy stalking around in the shade and assumed she was a Great Blue Heron:<br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2suczPg\"><IMG src=\"\/media\/IMGP3955_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nBut I later spotted a <A href=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Green_Heron\/\">Green Heron<\/A>, so that&#8217;s probably who I had seen; those can be hard to see in the trees:<br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2suczPr\"><IMG src=\"\/media\/IMGP4009_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Osprey\/\">Osprey<\/A> were at work:<br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2subaYL\"><IMG src=\"\/media\/IMGP3991_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nIt&#8217;s the time of year when we have <A href=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Great_Egret\/\">Great Egrets<\/A> here:<br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2suczJG\"><IMG src=\"\/media\/IMGP4059_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nI&#8217;ve remarked about the difficulty of getting good pictures of our <A href=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Belted_Kingfisher\/\">Belted Kingfishers<\/A>, because they&#8217;re small and fast, but this one hung around, visible, in a tree on the edge of the lake:<br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2subaRg\"><IMG src=\"\/media\/IMGP4089_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nAnd I Just Happned to be shooting when he took off:<br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2suczC9\"><IMG src=\"\/media\/IMGP4091_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nFun fact: that white spot you see on her face is <I>not<\/I> an eye, it&#8217;s just a little patch of white feathers. I wonder if that might be a diversionary tactic, making the casual observer think the bird is looking in a direction he&#8217;s not.<\/p>\n<p>And Now, what you&#8217;ve all been waiting for, the obligatory <A href=\"https:\/\/www.allaboutbirds.org\/guide\/Great_Blue_Heron\/\">Great Blue Heron<\/A> picture! Three in fact!<br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2suczHK\"><IMG src=\"\/media\/IMGP4104_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nOnce again, I had the camera out and shooting when the bird took off, and got a lot of pixels on this one:<br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2suaAk1\"><IMG src=\"\/media\/IMGP4108_tn.png\"><\/A><br \/>\nNideevee gozu&#8217;! (somehow it seems more appropriate to wish a wild person well in a language of people who understand and respect Nature).<br \/>\n<A href=\"https:\/\/flic.kr\/p\/2subq5T\"><IMG src=\"\/media\/IMGP4116_tn.png\"><\/A><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yes!
