{"id":648,"date":"2013-12-08T08:40:58","date_gmt":"2013-12-08T13:40:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/blog\/?p=648"},"modified":"2013-12-08T18:31:48","modified_gmt":"2013-12-08T23:31:48","slug":"soggy-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/blog\/soggy-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Soggy weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Not a real good weekend for outdoor activities, but we did manage to sneak out into the air a bit under a ceiling that threatened to become a floor in places:<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/u\/0\/photos\/111937200226914845828\/albums\/5512492014183163921\/5955008508144240786?pid=5955008508144240786&amp;oid=111937200226914845828\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7615_0005_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\nDuke Power maintains a hydro-electric facility called <A HREF=\"http:\/\/www.duke-energy.com\/power-plants\/pumped-storage-hydro\/bad-creek.asp\">Bad Creek<\/a> that, in part, operates like a big mechanical battery. During times when they have extra electricity, they pump water up into the reservoir. When demand cranks up, they let the water run back down to generate additional electricity. Those low ceilings didn&#8217;t leave room to get much closer than this.<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/u\/0\/photos\/111937200226914845828\/albums\/5512492014183163921\/5955014029386665298?pid=5955014029386665298&amp;oid=111937200226914845828\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7596_0006a_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\nAlmost oddly, the sun did manage to find a hole here and there.<br \/>\n<A HREF=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/u\/0\/photos\/111937200226914845828\/albums\/5512492014183163921\/5954998122389061538?pid=5954998122389061538&amp;oid=111937200226914845828\"><IMG SRC=\"http:\/\/wildcorvid.org\/media\/IMGP7587_0008_tn.jpg\"><\/A><br \/>\n<strong>Update:<\/strong> Even though Sunday turned out to be overcast, drizzly with occasional rain, around 40F degrees, and a chilly northeast breeze, I couldn&#8217;t just sit around the house. I went out on the lake for a bit. One thing that I&#8217;ve noticed is the apparent indifference that a lot of the wildlife displays towards the weather. I&#8217;m sure they&#8217;re aware of the conditions, since it&#8217;s a matter of survival, but, also a matter of survival, they can&#8217;t just curl up somewhere. They have to get out and eat.
