Fixing a Grumman Fuel Tank Leak
or
How I Spent My Summer Vacation

Day 6

Day 6 started with the sort of hopeful-dread feeling that often comes with a Moment Of Truth. Today we'd get fuel into the tank and see if a hazmat spill would result.

Cleanliness of the tank was a concern at this point. We were confident that all the big scrapings were out, but there was a lot of little pieces that we probably didn't get. With that in mind, we poured in a bucket of fuel, then drained it back out through the valveless sump tank drain. We repeated that process, discarding the crud in the bottom of the bucket (yes, there was some) each time until we stopped getting crud. It took about 20 iterations until I was satisfied.

Then we filled the tank about 1/2 full and let it sit.

Below are some more pictures of the tooling used.
